Movie: Simone: The Journey of a Lifetime

SYNOPSIS

“Simone,” the biopic about Simone Veil directed by Olivier Dahan, opens in theaters on Wednesday, October 12. A survivor of the Birkenau concentration camp, Simone Veil championed the cause of abortion rights in France, advocated for European integration, supported drug addicts and people living with AIDS, and spoke out against the detention of Algerian prisoners. “She’s not your typical politician; she’s not a woman who enters politics to gain power. She is an extraordinary politician: someone who acts for the greater good, for others,” says Elsa Zylberstein, who portrays the former minister on screen, adding that she had the opportunity to meet Simone Veil several times before her death in 2017.
