With great power comes great responsibility

Chloé Bertolus, the "surgeon" in Philippe Lançon's *Lambeau*: "Power means responsibility."

“Powerful women”— two words that don’t necessarily go well together, two words that sound strange to the ear. People say women are beautiful, charming, sassy, delightful, lively, intelligent—sometimes even tough, manipulative, or mean—but they rarely say women are powerful.

That word is supposedly reserved for men… Chloé Bertolus is a counterexample.

Her résumé is impressive: university professor, head of one of the most specialized departments in modern medicine—maxillofacial surgery…

But it was a book that brought her to the attention of the general public: *Le lambeau* by Philippe Lançon. In it, she plays Chloé, the surgeon who will reconstruct the lower half of the face that was torn off the *Charlie Hebdo* journalist.

Lançon’s portrayal of him is so beautiful that Fabrice Luchini chose to perform it on stage.

A great doctor who has become a literary heroine is bound to be a powerful woman: “Chloé Bertolus is our guest.”
