Podcast of the Month: “Jobs Traditionally Seen as ‘Men’s Work’ Are Actually Women’s Jobs”

The Elle Active forum, launched about a dozen years ago by the weekly magazine *Elle* in partnership with several major companies committed to workplace equality, now has its own podcast. Among the various episodes covering topics such as salary negotiations, work-life balance, and public speaking, we came across the episode dedicated to gender diversity in the workplace. In “Men’s Jobs Are Women’s Jobs , ” three corporate representatives share their stories: Anne-Sophie Nomblot, President of SNCF Mixité; Sophie Romanet, a planner at SNCF Réseau; and Cécile Badoual, head of the anatomic pathology department at the Georges Pompidou European Hospital. Together, they challenge common misconceptions about the gender distribution of professions.

Shift work? If flight attendants and nurses can do it, why not female drivers, engineers, and construction foremen?

Heavy loads? Come to think of it, a load that’s too heavy for a woman is probably just as heavy on a man’s back! What if the answer wasn’t about who gets hurt on the job, but rather about implementing ergonomic solutions for everyone?

A testosterone-fueled sense of authority and a more feminine, empathetic mindset? Come on, there are more stereotypes than biology at play here!

Are there job titles that lose their prestige when they’re feminized? What do you mean, “directoress” sounds like a school principal, whereas “director” sounds serious? We need to chill out a bit when it comes to these biases!

An inspiring podcast to help us stop blocking our daughters’ horizons… And our sons’ too!
