Dear Ijeawele, or a Manifesto for Feminist Education

“I am convinced of the moral urgency of working together to envision a different kind of education for our children, in an effort to create a world that is more just for both women and men.” – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigerian writer) –

The book:

Published in March 2017, this book, “Dear Ijeawele, or a Manifesto for a Feminist Education“ is a letter in response to her friend Ijeawele, who asked her for advice on how to give her newborn daughter a feminist upbringing. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie offers her (and us) fifteen suggestions for raising her daughter while making her aware that she matters. “Not ‘if.’ Not ‘as long as.’ ‘Just as much’—that’s all.”

Although educational in nature, the book is not intended solely for parents or an exclusively Nigerian audience. Adichie addresses various issues that are widely debated around the world today. The universality of this short story quickly made it a smash hit.
